Jejak Langkah.

Good morning, good afternoon and good night to all of the readers reading! On this article, i’m gonna be reviewing one of my favorite books from my collection, Jejak Langkah written by Pramoedya Ananta Toer. Now now, i know this book might be too much for my age, but i did a lot of researches and wrote A LOTT of notes about the things that i didn’t understand. In this review, there won’t be any big spoilers because i haven’t finish the book myself —believe me, it really is a heavy book to read. So let’s start!

This book was written during the imprisonment of Pramoedya Ananta Toer in Buru Island. And this book was released in 1985 years after his release. This book is one of the 4 book of The Buru Quartet, and Jejak Langkah is the 3rd book from this tetralogy. Inside this book, it tells the story of Minke —the main character— that mobilizes resistance against the power of Hindia government at that time. He didn’t do it by war, he did it with journalism, in silence he move, and the impact was big.

During his stay in Central Betawi he went to a medical school, one of the most prestigious school at that time, i forgot how many months or years did he study there, but he dropped off due to the lack of keeping up in subjects. Then he tried to build an organization with the regent of Jepara and some of his friends. He did it, the plan worked and the organization was running, then came a suggestion from one of the organization member to make a newspaper company, he listened, he made one. He named it “Medan Prijaji (Medan Priyayi)” and with this new company, he hoped that the people will move towards bigger action of boycott towards the Hindia government. It worked, bigger parties started to boycott the government, bigger parties start to build new nationalism organization, and bigger parties are starting to try erasing feudalistic culture. The company even started to ship newspaper around the world —Paris, Germany, etc. This far, the story is really good, and i can’t wait to open new pages and start new chapters that awaits for me.

ith this written, i rate Jejak Langkah a 9/10 so far (minus 1 because of the heavy and old language.. it’s okay tho.) and i really really recommend all of you to read this book! It’s a fun book to read, and honestly it’s not really that overwhelming if i think about it again. Just a gentle reminder for the readers who wants to read this book: prepare sticky notes, a pen, and your phone for research, because trust me… you’ll be having your book full of sticky notes in the end of the day (it happens to me..)

So.. i guess that’s all for this day’s article, thank you so much for those of you who had read this article, i’ll see you all some other time (maybe after i finish the book and re-review it again), have a great day!
